Performance, "Never /Again", Men Only - Performance art Festival, curated by BBB Johannes Deimling, Berlin, Germany

"Never/Again" work's the fact that we will never be child again.
I built a sequence of actions that aims to create an identity of myself. By going against the wall, where was written NEVER and falling down in the flour, where was written AGAIN, I create a dialogue between child memories and an attempt to dream forever.

Performance Project "Appointment with Kortrijk" in the context of Kunstcentrum Buda Residencies, Kortrijk, Belgium

This project built a relation map between the artist Márcio Carvalho and the city/surround of Kortrijk, Belgium taking advantage of its spaces, population, objects and quotidian’s. These relations were recorded in the format of video, photography, text and sound. During the project period of time were collected testimonials, objects and writing passages to be used in a final presentation where the artist engage, in a performative action, all the constructed forms, lived in this period of time.

“Appointment with Kortrijk” reflected about the condition of the act of meeting. It is a collaboration between Márcio Carvalho, invited artists and the city of Kortrijk.
In an appointment there is always a theme, a subject to talk about. In this project the artist proposes the opposite. The subject of the dialogues will be made in the space and with the properties of it.

Performance, "Learning you" in collaboration with Elisa Haug, Extension Series 5 - Curated by Andrés Galeano, Grimmuseum, Berlin


We decided to develop, in our four day residence, a performance collaboration dealing with the process of becoming familiar. The architecture of the room, the wall in the middle, dividing it into two parts, suported this idea.

The performance had 3 moments

Both three moments were very important for the performance process and work. They come to question what comes before a performance and what stays after, and the importance of this 2 stages that surrounds the performance action.

Durational Performance, "Vorbei", M5 Differential Performance Art Festival, Turmßstrasse - Moabit, Curated by Richard Raabensat, Berlin, Germany

Creating a map of actions between several public spaces in Turmstraße, the artist behaved a quotidian that was an exaggerated replica of the street daily life. Spaces such as the Church, the Markthalle, street roofs, the galerie Nord and other spaces in Turmstraße were stages for different actions.
One miracle in the church, a moment in heaven and many other actions created a reflex of the rhythm and the behaviors of the street in a format of a dream



Performance, "Neo Saudade", residence in collaboration with Lucia Marques, Roberto Afonso and Tiago Margaça

Saudade is a Portuguese word. It is one of the Portuguese untranslatable words. Is a feeling of missing, although is very specific, in this case. This word was written for the first time by D.Duarte king of Portugal. The word was born when the Portuguese ships were travelling around the world searching for new cultures. It was the feeling of the ones who stayed and the ones who left, what created the “saudade”.

“Neo saudade” was the form that the artists found to translate the feeling of Saudade, in Berlin

In my performance I worked between the feeling of shipwreck inside a body and the condition of death in the portuguese expression "matar a saudade" killing saudade. In this expression death is a beautiful thing.

Performance, "Homework", Festival Home sweet home, Werkstatt der Kulturen, Berlin, Germany

"Homework" was a response to the thematic of the Festival Home sweet home.
The performance process was based on the memory of the house.
I built a house of clay where I took from inside a metaphor of the inside of my body in the form of several objects. Between them there was 8 barbies, 1 heart, 1 bone, a audio tape, a money box and a letter that i sent to myself with memories, specially produced for the moment of the performance.


Performance "Appointment", in collaboration with Yingmei Duan, Hotel25, Berlin

"Appointment" was a 18 days collaboration in which the artists Márcio Carvalho and Yingmei Duan performed meetings and meet as performance WITH different locations throughout Berlin. Examples of that appointments were :
Appointment with three, Appointment with Amadeus, Appointment under the car, Appointment with neighbor, etc
All the project was a performance process developed through several happenings. The final stage of the project was presented as a process where both artists showed 7 videos, 1 sound piece and a performance (meeting with audience).


Performance, "2nd Time Still", Festival Plot in Situ, Acud Theater, Berlin

"For the 2nd time I am in a position where I have to remember myself, as an artist and as an individual that is influenced by different kinds of environments. Working the Theater in site-specific means that I should let behind acting, that can exist as well in my work. But not here, not now, not because i am in a Theater Architecture."

Coming from Visual arts, Marcio Carvalho creation, in the live art context, is always based in images that doesn't aspire to be understood in a linear narrative. "The aim is to affect the public by creating an image that each one can built is own interior time narrative".

Marcio Carvalho in this particular piece will work with Satoshi Morita. Satoshi works in the field of Sonic Art. Beside constructing the physical space with Marcio Carvalho, Satoshi Morita will create the audio circumstances in a constant development of space and movement.

I constructed a form for Satoshi, Satoshi was listening this form, I was looking Satoshi, both were living a real process of construction in a acting space named Theater.

Performance, "Apparition 8", TV Show - The powers of Art, AlexTV, Berlin

How can I create an apparition in a TVshow, where people are always expecting something to happen?
Appariton #8 was created inside the structure of the show. All the process of "appearing" influenced all the dynamic of the show.



Performance cycle, "7 apparitions before 8", Hotel25, Berlin


Was an experimental work during 7 days of the week, having as platform the window from Hotel25 space. 7 performances in 7 days made in Hotel25 showroom.


“1 minute before 8 the window open and the apparition starts”


This works were produced in a context specific format. The purpose was to confront the communities from the neighbourhood with performance actions that started everyday, 1 minute before 20h. The duration of each piece was between 10 and 15min.


7 images were produced, creating a dialogue between my work and the quotidian of people that were passing by.




Performance "Faker of Self to me", Batard Festival, Brussels


Performance made in the context of the festival of performance Batard in Brussels


Was a performance that assumed a relation between the artist and the object suitcase. “The performance was constructed by actions based on the time between the moment that I found the object and the moment that I became the same object”


Object and body in a relation that brings many social studies of behaviour, that related with impossible actions, created by the artist, reformulates the relation between person and object as quotidian actions.





Performance "Error 823 - 2008.12.01", Temp 5/2 Berlin

Was a performance where the error was choose to reformulate the objective methods of the constructions of a form.

Talking about the error was the motivation for this work to happen. The error/mistake as a special part of a process, that brings reality to the forms and concepts.

Performance made in the context of the festival Magistrale, Berlin


Was a performance that questions function and mechanism in physical and poetic relations between object and person, object and object, person with person. This performance questions concepts of interactivity in a direct relation with body, where the new forms of the term, related to future, are worked with the excess need of the body.


These actions were showed in a daily life context, in intimae situations between 2 persons and objects.

It was a ritual made by heroes of the past, that were called to be present, in a live performance, to resolve the apocalyptic utopias of the future.

Performance "Machine pour une Célébration", Résidence Avant Rue, Paris 2007
This performance was made in the context of the 6 month residence in the residences Avan’t Rue in Paris (http://www.artfactories.net/article.php3?id_article=1267 ).
It was live act where body and machine established contact. A dialogue where possibilities of engagements between them were exposed in a religious way. None of those engagements worked properly in their functions, only in their aesthetic forms.

Performance "Re-invensão do corpo e a recusa da morte" Caldas da Rainha, Portugal 2006
This life act was a production where the boundries between man and machine were questioned in simple acts of the quotidian. This acts were simplified by poetry non action. One of them was the book of David le Breton, goodbye to the body, that was passed to the body, by USB, in the time of 3minutes
